Quick Green Facts | Construction Process Compressed Earth meets and exceeds the three basic qualifications of Green Benefits of Compressed Earth Construction
Stablewood Springs Resort has hired Earth Built Homes LL, the premier eco-friendly, green building company for Compressed Earth Bricks--both its patented technology and residential and commercial construction.
Here at Stablewood Springs Resort we and Earth Built Homes are going beyond offering environmentally friendly green building construction, housekeeping products, linen reuse programs, low emission transportation alternatives, and selection of local and organic food produce—we strive to live by a “green approach” to nearly everything we do! As a guest you will experience this ambitious movement firsthand!
Quick Green Facts
- 60-80% of villa building materials were created on site—lessening carbon emissions caused by material transportation and eliminating deforesting impacts from wood products.
- Compressed–Earth Brick Construction is:
- 100% natural ingredients
- Insect, mold, and weather resistant
- Scores a 70+ on insulation, takes 8 hours of direct sunlight to change the interior temperature of a villa by 10F.
- Over 100 local jobs have been created for the development, construction, and operation of the resort.
- Stablewood Springs Resort partners with an eco-friendly, luxury vehicle transportation company to provide out-of-town guests with an alternative to high-emission vehicle transportation.
- Predominately indigenous or low water usage plants used for landscaping.

Construction Process
Earth Built’s process utilizes a patented machine to compress a mixture of earthen material, lime and water to form a building block with a compressive strength of up to 1800 psi. These blocks are water resistant and have superior building characteristics compared to old-fashioned adobe. Adobe normally has a compressive strength of 300 psi and is not water resistant. The blocks are then laid in place using a mortar of like materials to build the structure. Then Earth Built's proprietary formula plaster is applied to the interior and exterior. This plaster is composed of all natural ingredients and has the capability to breathe. This does not allow moisture to build up in the walls that could result in a black mold problem. The building process is very eco friendly and is synonymous with “Green Technology.” Green building is the way of the future due to a shortage of building materials and contamination of the atmosphere.

Compressed earth meets and exceeds the three basic qualifications of Green: 1) A Low emodied Energy Profile
| a. |
Compared to conventional concrete blocks, CEB contains approximately 70% less embodied energy. |
| b. |
Compared to a conventional wood structure of the same dimensions, CEB contains approximately 75% less embodied energy. |
2) A high percentage of sustainable components
- CEB is a sustainable product.
- CEB can be manufactured from local materials.
3) A low energy use
- CEB minimizes energy use due to its thermal mass.

Benefits of Compressed Earth Construction
- Conserves natural resources as it uses earth rather than lumber and less electricity, gas and other power is required.
- Fire resistant.
- Largely insect resistant.
- Reduced cooling and heating costs.
- Reduced maintenance cost.
- Mold, moisture and toxin resistant.
- Longer useful life.
- Superior hand-finished and volatile chemical-free walls.
- Improved acoustics and sound properties.
- Enhanced odor control.
- Walls act as a natural air filter enabling more pollutant-free air to circulate inside the villa.
- Provides a more consistent and stabilized relative humidity.
- Superior structural qualities.
- Insurance premiums are lower because of its fire resistant properties as compared to lumber construction and its increased resistance to wind damage from violent weather.
- There is a new “Green” technology factor that causes the structures to be recognized as modern and up-to-date and currently is being recognized throughout the USA as a leading edge eco-friendly building process.

Stablewood Springs Resort is committed to the concept of sustainable development.
SSR is currently in the process of attaining the U.S. Green Building Council’s L.E.E.D. certification. The certification consists of compliance with various requirements: choice of sustainable building sites, water efficiency, energy usage, atmosphere, indoor environmental quality, and building innovation and design. This prestigious third party environmental certification will help reinforce our own privately developed Environmental Management System (EMS).
Stablewood Springs Resort has joined the World Conservation Union (IUCN) in adopting the following definition of ecotourism:
"Environmentally responsible travel to natural areas, in order to enjoy and appreciate nature (and accompanying cultural features, both past and present) that promote conservation, have a low visitor impact and provide for beneficially active socio-economic involvement of local people.”
Stablewood Springs Resort is very proud to include these concepts into its corporate culture, guest experience, and community lifestyle. |
